The children were super engaged each week, and I noticed immediately the change these earth based sciences and workshops had on the children. At lunchtime..I noticed that they were engaging in their natural environment in a more curious and inquisitive way. They were climbing trees more, digging in the soil.. It was great to see them engaging in this way.

We've now welcomed Life Rocks for two years as part of our Year 3 Science inquiry into the Australian Curriculum (v9) topic on soil layers—and each time, the Dirt Detectives incursion has been a highlight of our term! The hands-on investigations, particularly using the digital magnifying glasses, were a massive hit with our students, helping them closely examine soil layers and rock samples like real scientists. Their excitement was palpable, with many saying things like “I didn’t know dirt could be this interesting!” From a teaching perspective, the incursion consolidates our classroom learning and brings science to life in an accessible, inquiry-rich way. It deepens understanding of Earth’s layers while fostering critical thinking and engagement. The Life Rocks team is professional, enthusiastic, and always a pleasure to work with. We’re so impressed that we’ll be purchasing our own digital magnifiers through Life Rocks to continue the learning throughout the year. Thank you again for another hands-on experience!

We recently had the Bean Boogie incursion with Life Rocks, and it was a fantastic experience for our students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2! Diana and Ella delivered engaging, hands-on sessions that had all the children excited about soil and plant growth. During the incursion, students explored a variety of soil types—including sand, rich worm poo soil, school soil, and a mixed blend—and planted their own beans in each to compare. The learning continued well beyond the session, with students eagerly observing and recording the growth of their beans in their diaries. It was a meaningful, interactive way to deepen their understanding of the natural world, and the excitement has continued in our classroom. I would highly recommend Life Rocks to other schools looking for a fun and educational incursion! Wonderful!

Our soil science, sustainability and nature incursions for primary schools and early learning include hands-on investigations and explore the lives of tiny creatures that support our ecosystems. These activities promote critical thinking, creativity, and curiosity.

Our sessions are playful, sensory, and grounded in real-world science – inviting kids to explore the living world with curiosity and care. We use our own educational resources, including The Soil Book and our Soil Education Kit (which includes creature cards, a game mat, and hands-on tools for exploration).

We design our soil and sustainability exploration activities for students in pre Kinder through Year six, using our Soil Education Kit which is aligned with the Australian Curriculum V 9.0, and other purpose-built resources. We tailor the content of the soil incursions to each year level for a memorable learning experience. These sessions are perfect for educators seeking soil science incursions in Melbourne.
