The children were super engaged each week, and I noticed immediately the change these earth based sciences and workshops had on the children. At lunchtime..I noticed that they were engaging in their natural environment in a more curious and inquisitive way. They were climbing trees more, digging in the soil.. It was great to see them engaging in this way.

The soil beneath our feet is teeming with life! More than just worms, this incursion takes young learners on a fascinating exploration into the soil food web and why our society and ecosystems depend on it!
Duration: 60 minutes
Single session
Pre kinder to year 4
This hands-on experience brings nature to children’s fingertips! An upgrade of a classic STEM activity, growing beans in different mediums helps students to learn so much about plants and their needs, including soil! This activity invites older students to develop hypotheses about how plants grow in different soil types, while younger students get to experience the wonder of plant growth and learn about plant parts and needs.
Duration: 45-60 minutes
One to three sessions, spaced weekly
Pre kinder to year 6
Having a worm farm is sustainability in action and an excellent way to teach students about decomposition, the role of organisms in soil formation and how we can turn waste into a valuable resource. Our soil ambassador can either set up a new worm farm for your centre or school to keep, or bring one in for students to explore.
Duration: 45-60 minutes
One, two or three sessions
Pre kinder to year 6
